लाल किले पर खालसा का झंडा फहराने वाला दीप सिद्धू भाजपाई? 24 घंटे बाद भी गिरफ्तारी क्यों नहीं?

पूरा देश 26 जनवरी को जब 72वां गणतंत्र दिवस मना रहा था तब करीब 10 लाख किसान 3 लाख ट्रैक्टरों के साथ दिल्ली के विभिन्न हिस्सों में परेड कर रहे थे। दोपहर तक सबकुछ बढ़िया चला लेकिन अचानक स्थिति बदली और आंदोलन में किसानों व पुलिसकर्मियों के बीच झड़प शुरु हो गयी। ये सब हो ही रहा था तभी एक कुछ ऐसा हुआ जिसने पूरी दुनिया का ध्यान अपनी तरफ खींच लिया। प्रदर्शन में शामिल दीप सिद्धू ने लाल किले की प्रचीर पर खालसा का झंडा फहरा दिया। ये एक ऐसी घटना थी जिसने गोदी मीडिया को मौका दे दिया और उसने पूरे आंदोलन को हिंसक बताने में लग गई, अपने घिनौने मंसूबों में वह कामयाब भी हो रही है। खैर बड़ा सवाल ये है कि ये दीप सिद्धू है कौन?

एक लाइन में कहूं तो ये भाजपा कार्यकर्ता है। जो 2019 के लोकसभा चुनाव में बॉलीवुड अभिनेता सन्नी देओल के लिए प्रचार किया करता था। सन्नी देओल के लिए रैलियों में जनता को संबोधित करता और उनसे भाजपा को वोट देने की अपील करता। जैसे ही लाल किले पर खालसा का झंडा लगाने की खबर आई सन्नी देओल ने ट्वीट करके सफाई दी कि उनका और उनके परिवार का दीप सिद्धू से कोई संबंध नहीं है। ये अजब बात है। सन्नी देओल खुद उसे अपने बगल बिठाकर उसकी तारीफों के पुल बांध रहे हैं, चुनावी गाड़ियों में अपने बगल खड़ा कर रहे हैं लेकिन जैसे ही उसका दूसरा रूप सामने आया उससे पल्ला झाड़ने में लग गए।

पंजाब के मुक्तसर जिले के दीप सिद्धू ने कानून की पढ़ाई की लेकिन वकालत में कैरियर बनाने के बजाय पंजाबी फिल्म इंडस्ट्री में आ गया। शुरुआत में मॉडलिंग की लेकिन सफलता नहीं मिली। 2015 में ‘रमता जोगी’ फिल्म बनाई फिर भी नाम स्थापित नहीं कर सका। 2018 में ‘जोरा दास नम्बरिया’ फिल्म ने दीप सिद्धू की पहचान को इंडस्ट्री में स्थापित किया, उस फिल्म में ये भाई साहब गैंगेस्टर बने थे। शायद उसी का असर रहा कि ये वास्तविक जीवन में भी गैंगस्टर बनने निकल पड़े।

सवाल ये है कि दीप सिद्धू क्या सच में किसानों का हितैषी है। पीछे जाएंगे तो कहानी साफ होगी। 25 सितंबर के दिन पंजाब के तमाम अभिनेताओं ने किसान आंदोलन का समर्थन किया और मोदी सरकार से नए कृषि कानून वापस लेने की बात कही। समर्थन देने वाले अभिनेताओं में दीप सिद्धू भी शामिल था, उसके समर्थन देने पर किसान नेता राजेवाल जी ने कहा था अरे वो क्या किसानों को समर्थन देगा वो तो मोदी मोदी ही करता है।

25 जनवरी को दीप सिद्धू आधी रात सिंघु बॉर्डर पहुंचा उसने किसानों से कहा- हमारे नेता दबाव में हैं, अगर वह निर्णय नहीं ले सकते तो हमें निर्णय लेना होगा। इसके बाद गैंगस्टर से नेता बना लखबीर सिंह सिधाना ने किसानों को संबोधित करते हुए कहा- हम रिंग रोड पर जाएंगे, अगर कोई विरोध करता है तो वह करता रहे। अगर कोई हमारे समर्थन में है तो वह मजदूर संघर्ष समिति को फॉलो करे। सुबह हुई वह तय मार्ग को तोड़ते हुए लाल किला पहुंच गए। प्रशासन मूक बनकर देखता रहा। और दीप सिद्धू निशान साहिब का झंडा लेकर ऊपर पहुंच गया।

जब वह ऊपर चढ़ रहा था तब बड़ी संख्या में किसानों ने उसे नीचे उतर आने को बोल रहे थे लेकिन वह किसी की नहीं सुना। वायरल वीडियो में ये देखा जा सकता है। दीप सिद्धू ने अपनी सफाई में एक वीडियो जारी करते हुए कहा- हमने राष्ट्र ध्वज को नहीं हटाया बल्कि प्रतीकात्मक विरोध के तौर पर निशान साहिब का झंडा लगाया। ये सिख धर्म का प्रतीक है और इस झंडे को सभी गुरुद्वारा परिसर में लगाया जाता है। बात तो सही है, निशान साहिब तो हमारे प्रधानमंत्री नरेंद्र मोदी भी अपने सिर पर बांधते हैं। लेकिन सवाल ये है दीप सिद्धू, जब तुम्हें तिरंगा दिया जा रहा था तब तुमने उसे क्यों फेक दिया। देश की ध्वजा का सम्मान कैसे किया जाता है ये क्या तुम्हें नहीं पता?

किसान नेता एवं स्वराज इंडिया पार्टी के प्रमुख योगेंद्र यादव ने कहा, दीप सिद्धू और लखा सिधाना ने किसानों को भड़काने की कोशिश की। उन्होंने मांग की है कि इस बात की जांच होनी चाहिए कि एक माइक्रोफोन के साथ दीप सिद्धू लाल किले तक कैसे पहुंच गया। यही आरोप किसान यूनियन के हरियाणा प्रदेश अध्यक्ष गुरनाम सिंह ने भी लगाया, उन्होंने कहा, दीप सिद्धू ने किसानों को भड़काया और उन्हें मिसगाइड करके लाल किला ले गया।

ध्यान रहे दीप सिद्धू को किसानों ने इसके पहले भी गाली देकर अपने आंदोलन से भगाया है, सिद्धू की जितनी फोटो भाजपा नेताओं के साथ है उससे कहीं कम किसानों के साथ है। मांग बस इतनी है कि सच्चाई सामने लाई जाए, दीप सिद्धू की पिछले एक महीने की कॉल डिटेल बाहर निकाली जाए, उसे लोगों के सामने रखा जाए कि आखिर किससे उसने बात की। किसके इशारे पर वह किसानों को लेकर लाल किला पहुंच गया। कहीं सच में इसके पीछे भाजपा तो नहीं। ये सवाल जल्द साफ होगा।

पूरा विश्व नाज़ुक वक्त से गुज़र रहा है। लेकिन भारतीय मीडिया का एक बड़ा तबका अभ भी सांप्रदायिक उन्माद फैलाने में लगा हुआ है। फ़र्ज़ी वीडियो और झूठी ख़बरें प्रकाशित कर एक खास तरह का नैरेटिव सेट किया जाता है। इस नैरेटिव से समाज का ताना-बाना बुरी तरह से खराब हो रहा है। आखिर क्यों मीडिया का एक बड़ा तबका समाज के खिलाफ खलनायक की तरह एक्ट कर रहै है? – इस मुद्दे पर हमने बातचीत की सामाजिक कार्यकर्ता और स्वतंत्र पत्रकार प्रशांत कनौजिया से।

बातचीत के अंश –

प्रश्न – एक ऐसे समय में जब देश महामारी से लड़ रहा है, आखिर क्यों गोदी मीडिया सांप्रदायिक नफ़रत फैला रही है?
उत्तर – जब चौकीदार सो जाता है तब वह सारी जिम्मेदारी कुत्तों को दे जाता है। मीडिया का एक बड़ा तबका कुत्तों की भूमिका में आ चुका है। जब चौकीदार सो रहा है, चोर लोग आकर देश को लूट रहे हैं, बेईमान लोग देश को बदनाम करने की कोशिश कर रहे हैं तो मीडिया को काम दिया गया है कि लोगों को निरंतर गुमराह करके मूलभूत सुविधाओं पर सवाल पूछना शिक्षा और स्वास्थ्य व्यवस्था पर सवाल पूछना – यह सब नहीं होना चाहिए। मीडिया को सरकार से यह कॉन्ट्रैक्ट मिला हुआ है कि वह किसी भी तरह से आमजन को गुमराह करे। इसी गुमराही में जो सरकार स्थापित हुई है, देश में वह नफरत की बिसात पर स्थापित हुई है।

प्रश्न – मतलब पत्रकारिता संस्थान में जो लोग काम कर रहे हैं वह इंस्ट्रक्टेड हैं?
उत्तर – बिल्कुल-बिल्कुल इंस्ट्रक्टेड हैं। पहले अरुण जेटली जी हैंडल करते थे ये सब कुछ। अब कोई और हैंडल कर रहा है। यह मुझे अभी नहीं पता कि कौन अभी गोदी मीडिया को हैंडल कर रहा है?

प्रश्न – पत्रकारिता संस्थान में काम करने का आपका अपना अनुभव रहा है आप सोशल मीडिया पर भी काफी एक्टिव रहते हैं, जिसकी वजह से आपको जेल भी जाना पड़ा है? सरकार की तरफ से जिस तरह के दबाव की बात आप कर रहे हैं, उस दबाव के बीच पत्रकारों के जमीर और उनकी पेशेवर कमिटमेंट का क्या होता है?
उत्तर – देखें, क्या है ना की गणेश शंकर विद्यार्थी का एक जमाना था पर अब एक अलग जमाना हमें देखने को मिल रहा है। इमरजेंसी के दौरान जब पूरी तरीके से अधिकार आपके ले लिए गए थे, उस समय भी बहुत सारे पत्रकार थे जो लड़ने का काम कर रहे थे, लिखने का काम कर रहे थे, अखबार छापने का काम कर रहे थे। लेकिन आज तो अप्रत्यक्ष रूप से इमरजेंसी है। यह तो साफ-साफ नहीं कहा गया है कि अखबार नहीं छपेंगे। न ही प्रिंटिंग प्रेस की लाइट काट दी गई है। समस्या यह है की मीडिया का इतना व्यापारीकरण हो गया है कि हर पत्रकार को पैकेज में बांध रखा गया है। 25 लाख, 50 लाख, 80 लाख रुपयों का पैकेज। इसके कारण आपकी लाइफ स्टाइल उस दर्ज़े की हो जाती है कि आप साल का ₹80 लाख कमा रहे हैं। जाहिर सी बात है अगर आप ईमानदारी से पत्रकारिता करेंगे तो कोई आपको 60-70 हज़ार रुपये प्रति महीना से ज्यादा नहीं देगा। इस लाइफस्टाइल से मजबूर हैं पत्रकार। उनको एक आदत डाल दी गई है कि आपको यह करना है।

आजकल पत्रकारिता के अंदर आपको पत्रकार नहीं चाहिए। आप एनएसडी के किसी पास आउट को लाकर भी एंकर बना सकते हैं। एंकर और पत्रकार में बहुत अंतर होता है। जैसे स्क्रिप्टिंग होती है, फिल्म बनती है, मुझे लगता है अब न्यूज़ चैनल में भी वैसे ही काम होता है। स्क्रिप्ट बनती है, BOD मीटिंग में तय होता है कि हमें रिलायंस से एडवर्टाइजमेंट मिल रहा है तो हम उनके खिलाफ नेगेटिव नहीं रहेंगे; अदानी पावर से एडवर्टाइजमेंट मिल रहा है तो हम उसके खिलाफ नहीं जाएंगे। कुल मिलाकर मीडिया मालिक केंद्रित हो गया है पहले वह एडिटर केंद्रित हुआ करती थी। पहले संपादक सारे निर्णय लेता था। अब मालिक निर्णय लेते हैं। इसीलिए यह परिणाम देखने को मिलते हैं।

मालिक का अपना व्यवसायिक हित होता है। और उस इंटरेस्ट को प्रोटेक्ट करने के लिए वह सरकार के खिलाफ बहुत ज्यादा आलोचनात्मक नहीं हो सकता है। उसे सरकार की जरूरत पड़ती है। उसे जमीन सस्ते दाम पर चाहिए। टैक्स की चोरी से वह बचा रहे। ED या इनकम टैक्स उस पर हाथ ना डाले। हर बिजनेसमैन टैक्स की चोरी करता है यह जगजाहिर है। जाहिर सी बात है कि सरकार की गोद में बैठने से वह सुरक्षित महसूस करता है। विदेशों में एक ट्रेंड है बड़े बड़े बिजनेसमैन भी सरकार से सवाल करते हैं, उसकी आलोचना भी करते हैं लेकिन हमारे देश में जो भी बिजनेसमैन है वह जिसकी भी सत्ता हो उसकी गोद में बैठा रहता है। आजकल तमाम मीडिया संस्थान किसी ना किसी बिजनेस वेंचर का पार्ट है।

2008 तक मीडिया का बड़ा सम्मान था लेकिन उसके बाद 2012-13 से इसकी छवि में गिरावट आई है। आज आप अपने आप को पत्रकार कहिए तो समाज के अंदर लोग आपको दलाल समझते हैं। पहले सम्मान की नजर से देखते थे कि पत्रकार हैं।

प्रश्न – आज स्थिति हास्यास्पद हो चली है। अगर आप कहें कि अब पत्रकार हैं तो आपसे सवाल होता है कि आप कांग्रेसी पत्रकार हैं कि भाजपाई? वामपंथी पत्रकार हैं या दक्षिणपंथी? इस स्थिति को आप कैसे देखते हैं?
उत्तर – पत्रकार दो ही तरीके का होता है – या तो सत्ता का गुलाम हो सकता है या सत्ता से सवाल पूछने वाला हो सकता है। अगर किसी को किसी चीज से फायदा हो रहा है तो जाहिर है वह पावर की तरफ रहेगा। विपक्ष की तरफ क्यों रहेगा गाली खाने के लिए? यह बहुत पहले से चला आ रहा है आप बीजेपी से सवाल पूछे तो कहते हैं आप कांग्रेसी हैं कांग्रेसियों से सवाल पूछे तो कहते हैं भाजपाई हैं आम आदमी पार्टी से सवाल पूछे तो कहते हैं भाजपाई और कांग्रेसी दोनों हैं।

Judiciary losing its Credibility: on Justice Arun Mishra’s praisal of PM Modi

Justice Arun Mishra of Supreme Court gave a speech at the ‘International Judicial Conference 2020’, the topic of which was – “Judiciary and the changing world.” This was not an ordinary conference.

That speech has come into controversy now.

In that speech, Justice Arun Mishra said, ‘the PM Modi is a versatile genius, who thinks globally and acts locally’.

The union government is the biggest litigant before the Supreme Court and there is something called presumption of the constitutionality which is not healthy for a democracy like India.

Presumption of Constitutionality

Whenever parliament passes a law, the SC assumes that this law is constitutional. It is for the petitioners to prove that this law is unconstitutional and if the petitioners prove that this law is unconstitutional, SC will strike that law down. But if a SC Judge praises the member of the executive , the PM, it takes this presumption of constitutionality to another level.

Now, not only laws passed by the parliament are presumed to be constitutional, it also would mean that the actions of the executive would also be deemed as constitutional by the judges.

Restatement of Values of Judicial Life

In 1997, the SC created a charter called ‘Restatement of Values of Judicial Life’. According to this charter, every judge, at all times, must be conscious that he is under the public gaze. This means that even if a judge admires a political leader personally, he/she is expected to keep that admiration to themselves and not let it affect their opinions.

So, when a judge praises an executive, it creates unnecessary doubt about the independence of the judiciary. The Indian Supreme Court is viewed as one of the strongest and most powerful constitutional courts in the world. It is perhaps the only country in the world where judges are appoints themselves. It is viewed that the judiciary should be independent so that there should be no interference by the executive.

But the speech of Justice Mishra has said something that can’t be understood. On one hand, the Judiciary should be independent but at the same time, a sitting judge of the SC is openly praising the executive.

People may also argue that the judge is also a product of the society and can praise a political leader if he gets impressed just like another man.

But we can’t treat both of them equally. There should be a different yardstick for a judge and a different yardstick for a layman. It is unbecoming of a sitting judge of the SC to publicly praise a member of the executive.

Supreme Court derives its strength from the constitution.Powers of the SC are given by the Constitution and Supreme Court is also the final interpreter of the constitution.

But how can one ensure that this Supreme Court is also an institution of credibility.

We can only ensure that the Supreme Court is a credible institution only if people have faith in the Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court draws its strength from the constitution but it draws its credibility from the faith people repose in the Supreme Court.

But if the Judges of the Supreme Court starts publicly praising the executive, that’s the biggest litigant in India, then it erodes the faith of the public in this institution.

Namaste Trump: on President Trump’s India Visit

The American President has appreciated India while addressing a mass gathering in the world’s largest cricket stadium in Ahmedabad on 24th of Feb. President Trump and PM Modi addressed the huge rally of 1 lakh 10 thousand people there. The 45th President of the U.S. has come to India for his first ever diplomatic visit. He is accompanied by a high level delegation including the First lady Melania Trump, the president’s daughter and adviser Ivanka Trump, son-in-law and advisor Jared Khushner and a team of top American officials. A grand public reception was held for Trump at Motera Stadium, termed as ‘Namaste Trump’.
A similar event was organised in America for PM Modi in Texas when he visited America in September 2019 in which around 50,000 Indian-American took part.

Who organised ‘Namaste Trump’?
The organisers were not the Gujarat government,but a private newly formed group called the ‘Donald Trump Nagrik Abhinandan Samiti’ (DTNAS) which just emerged 4 days prior to the scheduled date of the american president’s visit. It is approximated that the cost for the 3 hour long event is going to be around 120 crore rupees.

After landing in Ahmedabad, the PM escorted the President and the First lady to ‘Hriday Kunj’ at Sabarmati Ashram of Mahatma Gandhi where the Trumps also spun the yarn before making an entry in the guestbook. Several gifts, including Mahatma mGandhi ji’s biography, a charkha, and a marble statue of three monkeys symbolising ‘ See no evil, Speak no evil and Hear no evil’ were presented to Trump at the Sabarmati Ashram.
It’s the first time that an American president visited the Sabarmati Ashram.
But Trump didn’t mention any word about Mahatma Gandhi ji in the visitor’s book, he just thanked PM Modi for escorting him to Sabarmati Ashram.

After the Sabarmati Ashram visit, POTUS was led past a “road show” of stages representing the 28 states of India on his way to the Motera stadium.
There’s a controversy also going around this road show. The government a build a 5 feet high wall along the road that leads to the Motera stadium so that the slums along the road can’t be seen by the foreign dignitaries.

What Trump says in his speech.
Trump signifies the friendship between India and America and said that America will always be India’s faithful friend. He said, “India holds a special place in our hearts. India gives hope to humanity.” he also praises PM Modi and his journey of becoming the PM.
He also praises the journey of India in the past 70 years and said that India has become the largest democracy and has become one of the greatest nations in the world.
He praised the many development works done in India. He said that now India’s each village has access to electricity. Over 300 million people in India have got internet connection. India will soon become the home to the largest middle class. He praised India’s achievement in the space world, praises ISRO, especially for the Chandrayan 2 mission.
Trump also tried to acknowledge the soft power between the two nations. He praises the contribution of Bollywood in the entertainment world and has also said the words of ‘Sholay’ and ‘Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’. He also said good words for indian cricket players, Sachin and Kohli.

On Terrorism
He said that the two nations are commited to fight terrorism and its ideology from the world.
He said that the U.S. is determined to help protect India from the threat of ‘radical Islamic terrorism’.But he also appreciated the role of Pakistan in fighting against the terrorism. He said, ‘Our government is working with Pakistan to crack down on terror groups. Our relationship with Pakistan is very good.

The American President didn’t criticize Pakistan because Donald Trump want to withdraw the U.S. troops from Afghanistan, who were fighting with the Taliban forces since 2001. Pakistan is a crucial player in the mediation talks between the Taliban and the American Government. Without Pakistan, it would be difficult for America to withdrew its forces from Afghanistan.

What about Trade deal?
Last year the US has revoked the status of GSP given to india, under which many of the indian commodities were exempted from excise
duty in U.S., and the indian products were able to compete in the American Markets. But after the revocation of GSP status, Indian companies struggles a lot to establish its presence in the American market.
India is hopeful of a significant trade deal on Tuesday.
Regarding the trade deal, Trump said, “USA and India will be making a very big trade deal to boost our countries economy. I am sure that we can reach a good trade. But PM Modi is a tough negotiator.” Trump also lashed out at trade barriers imposed by India.
But there will be a major defence dealon tuesday. india will buy anti-tank helicopter from America.
Effect of huge reception event like this
The Presidential elections are in November in U.S. The Indian American population in the U.S., totalling about 4 million, has increased by 40 % between 2010 and 2017. Thus, making them the fastest growing immigrant group in the country. It is also considered that Trump is attending this kind of huge event organised by India to influence the Indian American population as the Indian Americans now play a deciding role in the U.S. presidential elections.
This could also affect India-America relation in adverse manner in the future if the Democrats win the Presidential election in November because they can consider it as a step to influence the Indian-Americans to vote for Trump. Last year in september also, PM Modi interacted with Indian-Americans in ‘Howdy Modi’ event in Houston and said, “Abki bar, Trump sarkar” which was similar to the election campaign slogan of Narendra Modi during the 2014 Prime Minestrial elections, “Abki bar, Modi sarkar“.

Deportation of British parliamentarian: Modi government not ready of accomodating criticism?

The Indian government has released a statement regarding the arrest and deportation of the British Labour parliamentarian Debbie Abrahams, clarifying that her e- business visa had been revoked 3 days and she was trying to enter India through an invalid visa.

Debbie Abrahams said that she had got the e- visa for a time period of 1 year in october 2019. She questions how it can be possible that her visa got invalid if its term period is not over.

It is clear that the government has revoked her e-visa because she was a critic of the Indian government as the government has curbed human rights in Kashmir after the revocation of Article 370 from kashmir.

After the revocation of article 370 in August 2019, Mrs. Debbie Abrahams, who is the chairperson of the United Kingdom’s All- party parliamentary group on kashmir, raised the issue of human rights curbation in kashmir by the Indian government, in the british parliament. It can be harmful to Indian interests that a country can revoke a Visa issued for 12 months in just 4 months. The whole incident was nothing short of maladroit.

However, it is in the governments limit that it can revoke the Visa of any suspected person. But if the intention of the government was to prevent public criticism of its actions in Jammu and Kashmir, then its treatment of the British MP has ended up having spotlighted its action.

Similar comments can aslo be made in the case of the American Congresswoman, Mrs. Parmila Jaypal, who was a proponent of the resolution brouht in the house critical of India’s behaviour on Jammu and Kashmir. Mr. S. Jaishankar, Indian minister of external affairs, when went to America in December, denied to meet Ms. Parmilla Jaypal. He must have engaged with her at the meeting with the influential House Foreign Affairs Committee and tell her about the efforts done by the indian government to maintain peace and normalcy in Kashmir after the revocation of article 370.

Government is hopefully thinking about the fact that both these parliamentarians are from the opposition parties of the UK and USA, and ignoring their concern will not impact India’s relation with the Boris Johnson government and Trump government.

However, for the government like those of Malaysia and Turkey which are openly criticising Indian government on various international platforms, the Indian government is equally sharp.

India has imposed trade restriction on the palm oil imports from Malaysia. India has also issued a travel advisory to its citizens travelling to Turkey and has also told about its objection to the Turkish ambassador regarding Turkey’s comments in India’s internal affairs.

But, the anger expressed by the Indian Government on the negative comments by the Malasiyan and Turkey’s executive head on India’s internal matters doesn’t seem very much valid when at the same time organising groups of envoys to visit Kashmir and encouraging them to express positive opinion on the situation of Jammu and Kashmir.

It all shows that the government is not ready for criticism and is trying to suppress dissent, be it at international level or from the people of this country. The deportation of politicians who are critical of the Indian government, seems to be a part of a whimsical behaviour not suited to a democracy which takes pride in its tradition of debate and openness.

Ajay Maken and Milind Deora fights on twitter

दिल्ली चुनावों के परिणामों के बाद कांग्रेस में अंतर्कलह की स्थिति पैदा हो गई है। मिलिंद देओरा और अजय माकन के बीच ट्विटर पर यह कलह खुलकर सामने आई।

मिलिंद देओरा ने अपने ट्विटर अकाउंट से एक वीडियो शेयर करते हुए आम आदमी पार्टी की तारीफ की। उन्होंने लिखा अरविंद केजरीवाल के नेतृत्व में दिल्ली का राजस्व दोगुना बढ़ गया है और आप सरकार पाँच सालों तक सरप्लस राजस्व बनाए हुई थी। साथ ही उन्होंने लिखा कि दिल्ली सरकार आर्थिक रूप से विवेकपूर्ण सरकारों में से एक है।

दिल्ली कांग्रेस के पूर्व अध्यक्ष अजय माकन को यह बात नागवार गुज़री। उन्होंने मिलिंद के ट्वीट पर कमेंट करते हुए लिखा भाई, आपको कांग्रेस छोड़कर जाना है तो जाइए और उसके बाद आधी-अधूरी जानकारी फैलाइए। अजय ने लिखा 1997-98 में अनुमानित बजट के अनुसार रिवेन्यू था 4,073cr जो कि 2013-14 बढ़कर 37,459cr हो गया। उन्होंने लिखा कि कांग्रेस के कार्यकाल में CAGR 14.87% रहा। वहीं 2015-16 अनुमानित बजट था 41,129 करोड़ जो कि 2019-20 में बढ़कर 60,000 करोड़ हो गया। इस दौरान AAP सरकार के कार्यकाल में CAGR 9.90% रहा।

इस कमेंट के बाद मिलिंद ने इसे रीट्वीट करते हुए लिखा भाई। दिल्ली के सीएम के रूप में शीला दीक्षित के प्रदर्शन को कमतर मैं नहीं आंकता। ऐसा आप करते हैं। तंज कसते हुए उन्होंने ये भी लिखा कि बेहतर बदलाव के लिए कभी देर नहीं होती। आगे मिलिंद ने अजय माकन के बारे में लिखा कि आप के साथ गठबंधन की जगह अगर आपने शीला दीक्षित की उपलब्धियों की बात की होती तो आज कांग्रेस दिल्ली की सत्ता में होती।

Is everything really normal in Jammu and Kashmir?

The Home Minister assured the Rajya Sabha, 3 months before, that “normalcy” had been restored in Jammu and Kashmir. Yet, 3 main leaders of the Jammu and Kashmir- Omar Abdullah, Farookh Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have been slapped with the Public Safety Act and are under detention for more than 200 days.

Farookh Abdullah, under the Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s government, defended India’s position on Kashmir to the world, as Minister of State for External Affairs. But now, according to the Public Safety Act dossier prepared by the J&K administration, he stands accused of coddling militants and mobilising the people of Kashmir to defy Pakistan-backed militants and vote in elections. Just like Mr. Abdullah, Mufti has also been deemed “anti-national”. She ran J&K as Chief Minister with her party in alliance with the BJP for three years.

Broadening the zone of normalcy

It used to be the Indian government’s primary goal to show the world that the people of J&K participated in elections. The government tries its best to obtain diplomatic certification for turnouts in elections as a measure of the genuineness of the exercise. An election in J&K is not going to take place any time soon, but proving that such an election is genuine, when it is held, will still be the main aim of this government. The steady escorting of foreign delegates into the new Union Territory is an indication of this. The plank of “normalcy” in J&K extends with every lot of foreign envoys that enter the territory. The question then is, when will an election take place if the situation is “normal”?

In Kashmir, colleges and schools were open for months after the dilution of Article 370 on August 5, 2019, but nobody attended them. Is that also now normal? Many of the established businesses,which were contributing in employment generation and boosting the economy, have been closed down due to the internet shutdown in the valley as they were dependent on internet connection.

Every now and then, U.S. President Donald Trump makes a comment that he is ready to mediate between India and Pakistan, even though New Delhi insists that Kashmir is an internal matter. Earlier, the U.S. used to make such comments in the times when India and America were not having good relations, but it has become a routine for President Trump to offer for mediation, even in times when PM modi gets a grand welcome in the ‘Howdy Modi’ event in Houston and India is all set to organize ‘Kem Cho Trump’ in Gujarat. Is this too the new normal?

The misconception formed

The government conducts focused, narrowly guided tours in batches for foreign diplomats to assess and make a broad certification of the normalcy that prevails in J&K to their home countries. The diplomatic tourists hear and see exactly what New Delhi wants them to hear and see. These diplomats go to Srinagar and no doubt send rosy, impressionistic cables to their countries.

On the other hand, Indian politicians are not allowed to go to Kashmir and determine how normal the situation is. They probably have to request the foreign missions to put out regular updates, in the form of newsletters or health bulletins, to get a better sense of the situation.

Challenges ahead and the way forward

The main challenge for the government now is to hold elections in the newly created union territory and for that, the delimitation hurdle first needs to be crossed. This will be done on the basis of the 2011 Census.

The active participation of people in the elections is also a challenge for the government and the election commission as even the panchayat polls, which the Prime Minister declared a resounding success, left half the seats empty because of the absence of candidates and boycott calls. For that, there should not be a sense of anger, hurt and betrayal in the valley. The slapping of PSA on PDP and NC leader has also ignited this sense of fear and betrayal.

Leaders like Omar Abdullah, Farookh Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti should be freed from the draconian PSA and should be taken into confidence. They could be a great asset in quick stabilization in the valley. Placing senior leaders under detention exclude them from the opportunity of maintaining the normalcy pitch.

दिल्ली चुनाव के परिणामों ने विमर्श के एक बड़े मैदान का निर्माण किया है। उपरोक्त सवालों को सही जगह और जवाब भारत की राजनीति का भविष्य तय करेगी।

दिल्ली विधानसभा चुनावों के परिणामों पर पूरे देश की नज़र थी। बीजेपी के कई सांसदों, बीजेपी या इसके समर्थित राज्य सरकारों के मुख्यमंत्रियों, गृहमंत्री और प्रधानमंत्री के आक्रामक प्रचार ने इन चुनावों का कौतूहल बढ़ा दिया था।

CAA के ख़िलाफ़ आंदोलन और उसके बाद केंद्र सरकार द्वारा उसे हिंदू-मुस्लिम बहस में बदल देने की कवायद ने इन चुनावों को बिल्कुल अलग रंग दे दिया।

लेकिन केजरीवाल ने एक-एक कदम फूंक कर रखा। CAA आंदोलनों पर मौन साधे रहे। पूछे जाने पर नेश्नल टेलीविजन पर हनुमान चालीसा गाने से परहेज़ नहीं किया। महसूस किया कि लोगों के सिर पर कौन सा नशा आसानी से चढ़ता है, और वह नशा बांटने लगे। मीडिया को उसी तरह प्रबंधित किया जैसा मोदी और बीजेपी अमूमन करती है।

इनके अलावा पानी, बिजली की सस्ती/मुफ़्त उपलब्धता और शिक्षा एवं स्वास्थ्य क्षेत्रों में किया गया काम केजरीवाल के पक्ष में माहौल तैयार कर चुके थे।

बेशक, दिल्ली में केजरीवाल सरकार ने कल्याणकारी राज्य की अवधारणा को साकार करने की कोशिश की है। लेकिन वैकल्पिक राजनीति का मतलब केवल यही नहीं।

सामाजिक ढ़ांचे को लेकर आपकी सोच, अल्पसंख्यकों के लिए आपकी विचारधारा और फ़ासीवादी ताक़तों के ख़िलाफ़ लड़ने का आपका रवैया आपकी राजनैतिक विचारधारा को रेखांकित करेगी।

अब, जब पार्टी चुनावों की अग्निपरीक्षा को पार कर चुकी है तो ज़रूरी है कि वह आत्मावलोकन करे-

क्या ये महज़ दिल्ली की पार्टी है?
क्या केंद्र में मोदी, दिल्ली में केजरीवाल इस पार्टी की सच्ची आवाज़ है?
क्या जामिया के स्टूडेंट्स पर पुलिस बर्बरता के ख़िलाफ़ खड़ा न होना पार्टी का वास्तविक स्वभाव है?

Delhi Election Result 2020: Factors that led to AAP’s victory.

Arvind Kejriwal and his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were voted back to power with a massive mandate in the Delhi Assembly election 2020 as the party won 62 seats in the 70-member House. The party dropped just five seats and less than a percentage point in vote share from its historic 2015 performance.

Despite a bitter campaign that saw big shots, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the BJP managed to win only eight seats, only a 5 more from its 2015 tally. The INC, again failed to open its account — the party’s candidates forfeit their deposits on 63 of the 66 seats contested.The AAP secured 53.57 % of the vote share, while the BJP got 38.5% and the Congress 4.3%.

The loss in Delhi is a setback for Home Minister Amit Shah, who made it his mission to ensure that Mr. Kejriwal was denied a third term in office. BJP tried its best to defame Arvind Kejriwal but Arvind Kejriwal stressed his campaign mainly on the achievements of his government and that did the trick for the AAP.

BJP sources, however, blamed the party’s strategy of not projecting a chief ministerial face against Mr. Kejriwal, not being able to counter the AAP’s power and water subsidy schemes. The “unwarranted comments” against Mr. Kejriwal by senior party leaders like Pravesh Verma and Minister of State for Finance Anurag Thakur, who was among the 200-plus party MPs covering the Capital as part of the BJP’s campaign, is also seen as a reason that backfired. Anurag Thakur and Pravesh Verma were also banned from campaigning for 72 hours for raising derogatory slogan.

Mr. Shah also repeatedly said Delhi’s voters should press the “lotus” button on the electronic voting machine so that the “current” was felt in Shaheen Bagh, where thousands of people are peacefully protesting against the CAA-NRC-NPR regime. Mr. Shah personally addressed 52 public meetings in Delhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke at three public meetings, including one on Ramlila grounds.

For the BJP, the defeat in Delhi comes close on the heels of the loss in Jharkhand, where again the party stressed on CAA-NRC and Ram mandir. In Delhi too, Mr. Shah promised at several public meetings that a Ram temple would be constructed in Ayodhya in four months. It’s evident that what worked for the BJP in the Lok Sabha election did not work for it in Delhi or Jharkhand. The voter, clearly, has different interests and objectives in national and Assembly elections.

The derogatory performance of INC in the Delhi election was also a factor for this major defeat of BJP. A three-cornered contest in Delhi could have helped the BJP, but the Congress did a massive favour to the AAP by not campaigning. Like in 2015, the Congress voter turned out in large numbers for the AAP while the party came second in the 2019 Lok Sabha poll under the leadership of sheila dixit, when the party did active campaign, pushing the AAP to third position.

Mr. Kejriwal only spoke of his work and was going to the people on the basis of his government’s performance. He was critical of Mr. Shah on Delhi’s deteriorating law and order situation but did not directly criticise Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Finally, Mr. Kejriwal emerged out as an effective opposition to the BJP. The reason for AAP’s victory for a third consecutive time is that the party has developed an alternative politics that centrestaged people’s everyday concerns, their hopes and expectations about livelihood and life.

Shaheen Bagh protests: Has the time come for an end?

The protesters are unknowingly becoming puppets in the Delhi elections

The Shaheen Bagh protests have become a part of both the history of India’s democratic movements and of the women’s empowerment.The protesters at Shaheen Bagh in Delhi have registered their point. The muslim women, waving the national flag, carrying photos of Mahatma Gandhi and B.R. Ambedkar, and reciting the words of the Constitution’s Preamble have shown their resolve to stand up for the secular spirit of the Constitution.

However, there is a time when protest movements become counterproductive and the participants of such movements should understand this point. For the Shaheen Bagh protesters that time is now. The main reason for this conclusion is that with the Delhi Assembly elections are just a week away, the shaheen bagh protestors have increasingly become the puppet in the electoral game being played in Delhi.

The wrong message going out

The critics are objecting to the usage of the protest stage by some people who tried to make uncivil and provocative speeches. The extremist pronouncements by some of the people, like Sharjeel Imam, associated with the initial protest have sent the wrong message that the protests were only undertaken for partisan reasons and have fallen into the hands of extremist elements. The closure of one of the main roads for a long time also added to the negative image of the protests around Delhi.

There have been two shooting incidents near the protest venue. Although no one has been killed but there is no guarantee that the next one may not cause fatalities. While the protesters are not involved in such incidents, many hold them responsible for the disturbing law and order situation. With the U.P. Chief Minister’s entry into the Delhi electoral fray with his communal speeches, and the Hindu Sena’s threat that they will clear Shaheen Bagh by force, the condition is becoming more volatile. The protesters of shaheen bagh will be blamed if this escalating inflammatory rhetoric leads to a communal riot.

Negative consequences

The Shaheen Bagh protest has achieved its objective: they have squarely registered their dissent against the CAA and successfully linked the discussion of the CAA with the National Register of Citizens. Shaheen Bagh has emerged as a symbol of protest to protect the secular values enshrined in the constitution. But the protesters must also understand that the ongoing politics over the Shaheen Bagh protest serves the interests of both the BJP and the Congress. For the Congress, which is in a very bad situation in Delhi, the protest is a golden opportunity to beat both the BJP, which wants CAA to be implemented, and the AAP, which has been talking out of both sides regarding the Shaheen Bagh protests and the CAA. But the greatest beneficiary of the continuing protests is the BJP. It helps the party to consolidate the Hindu vote behind it and paint the AAP and the Congress as anti-Hindu. It’s the reason why the HM has allowed the protests to continue without interference by the Delhi police.

Therefore, the protesters must recognize that their actions are leading to far more negative outcomes than the positive ones. There is no harm in halting the protest movement for some time. They may continue the protest in a fresh way free of political capture attempts after the Delhi elections are concluded.source link
