Planning to take “The SAREE CHALLENGE” Think Again!

The Maharashtra cyber cell has advised individuals against a site named ‘Deep Nude’ and it’s few versions that utilize Artificial Intelligence to produce a naked image of an individual when a normal photo is transferred to the webpage, in this way leaving women taking an interest in online trends, for example, ‘SAREE CHALLENGE’ helpless against pornography, erotic entertainment, and extortion.

As per a report in The Hindu, a cyber police officer warned, “Recent trends like the ‘Saree Challenge’, where women upload their pictures on their social media accounts and tag their friends, creating a chain, present endless opportunities to criminal elements to prey on them using websites like Deep Nude. It is best to have privacy settings that do not allow strangers access to pictures.”

The controversial website that shut down its activities a year ago, is back in the business now. Allegedly, Indian cybercriminals are also utilizing the site for catfishing. Cybercriminals usually honey trap married men through sexual and titillating talks and trading off compromising pictures and later use it against them via blackmail.

Cybercriminals take advantage of individuals’ reluctance to report or complain about such violations to the police. Maharashtra SP (Cyber Cell) Balsing Rajput said that a group had been set up to screen the site with the goal that stringent move could be made against the serious crime.

The pictures shared via web-based networking media by women, according to the reports, are much of the time utilized by the cybercriminals to make nudes, which are then utilized for sex entertainment, pornography, and extortion.

One of the most exceedingly terrible threats of websites like Deep Nude is that there are various renditions or versions of the site accessible. The Hindu reports that the situation is all the more grim as the website even has an app and a twitter handle as two of its versions. One website page even looks for donations from clients. Talking of now, there have already been reports of women being targeted.

Before all this happening now, the Singapore government had suspended the use of Zoom Video Communications Inc’s conferencing application for online training after programmers hijacked a training exercise and flashed vulgar pictures to the students. Singapore’s Ministry of Education (MOE) said on April 9 (Thursday) that it is at present investigating the breach.

The teachers in Singapore are the most recent victims of the Zoom software, wherein strangers randomly join private conversations and start using abusive language, showing obscene pictures or post shocking messages. Taiwan has likewise prohibited the use of Zoom software for video conferencing. The Indian government has recently expressed that the Zoom software isn’t protected.

Source link

How The World Will Emerge After The Pandemic

Talks about the world that will emerge after the coronavirus pandemic have just begun apace. The Covid-19 recuperation offers a chance to make an alternate sort of ‘NORMAL’ – one that can help re-establish trust in the state and reaffirm pivotal financial and social rights.

The pandemic is set to cost 1.5% or $1 trillion around the world, which would mean a worldwide downturn or recession with every single person influenced and an overwhelming effect on the poorest nations.

Plans for recovery are as of now being examined, with attention on the monetary improvement expected to enable economies to recoup. In any case, what is required is a foundational or systematic change that goes far beyond financial instruments to recalibrate societal values and give a progressively maintainable supporting future.

Emergencies and crises like this are frequently a snapshot of progress: my experience from the humanitarian context is that they ought to never be viewed as an impermanent breakdown, yet rather as a process of progress, making new systems of social representation and guideline.

RETURN TO NORMALCY

A return to normalcy post-pandemic doesn’t mean an insignificant rebuilding of the past circumstance, however, should prompt the foundation of another future that, in the expressions of Mark Fisher, says ‘what was recently considered to be inconceivable appear to be feasible’.

Ongoing decades have seen a dynamic disintegration of hard-won monetary and social rights, extending social imbalances, the extension of problematic work and the relapse of the welfare state in a growing number of countries.

This has been joined by a reaction against human rights, especially women’s’ rights, and the contracting of democratic space, driving now and again to the criminalization of social developments and rising populism, nationalism and xenophobia.

THREE AREAS WHICH ARE BOUND TO CHANGE

This foundational change needs to address three critical difficulties: environmental change, widespread disparity and the disintegration of human rights. There is no alternative however change, given the condition of the planet and the profound cultural breaks that undermine the dependability of the implicit agreement among residents and states.

CLIMATE CRISIS

The developing direness of the atmosphere crisis has connected with many concerned residents and made mass social developments requesting the change. The Covid-19 emergency has demonstrated that increasingly manageable methods for a living are conceivable.

Governments and organizations will be pushed to discover approaches to empower individuals to forever move their conduct concerning work and travel and think about the advantages of remote working and virtual gatherings. All the more fundamentally, any money related recuperation should be predicated on dire activity to lessen emanations in rich economies and guarantee a simple change in lower-salary nations.

INEQUALITY

The recuperation will likewise need to handle the profound disparity tormenting such a large number of social orders. The consequence of the Second World War saw pointedly diminished salary and riches imbalance and broad government intercession in post-war recuperation.

Something comparable will be required currently to diminish corporate and venture benefits and ensure laborers and buyers, including through social government assistance changes and dynamic tax assessment. Governments are as of now assuming a lot more grounded job in helping their residents and economies climate this emergency, for example, with the UK ‘wartime’ money related salvage bundle to ‘bolster occupations, salaries, and organizations’, and this should be continued. New thoughts, for example, widespread fundamental pay ought to be tried.

HUMAN RIGHTS

The test with progressively strong state inclusion will be to abstain from suffering constraints to singular opportunities. Many dread that the remarkable measures and crisis enactment governments have acquainted with closed fringes, implement isolate and track contaminated individuals might be the introduction to increasingly imperious and illiberal systems.

Human rights advocates have scrutinized the speed with which crisis bills were waved through without parliamentary examination, and dread that a portion of these measures will get standardized after some time. Some dread that tyrannies are now developing, for example, in Hungary.

Indeed, even before these draconian measures were presented, key human rights were at that point answered to be under strain in very nearly 66% of the 113 nations studied for the 2018 Rule of Law Index, with worries over a widespread flood in dictator patriotism and a retreat from universal lawful commitments.

The reaction against ladies’ privileges is especially worried, from rising femicide and politically inspired sex-based viciousness to the disintegration of sexual and conceptive rights. These assurances must be progressed inside the setting of another global framework that replaces the current multilateral framework in an emergency.

RUN FOR ANOTHER SOCIAL MODEL

Multilateral advancement has perpetually risen out of fundamental emergencies. The First World War prompted the creation of the League of Nations, and the Second to the foundation of the UN, the Bretton Woods establishments and the European Coal and Steel Community (ECSC), which prepared for the formation of the EU. The 1973 oil stun introduced the G7. All the more as of late, the G20 was set up after the 2008 recession.

It’s too soon to state what structure this post-pandemic should take, however it ought to mirror the distinctive idea of the Covid-19 emergency contrasted with the universal wars or worldwide money related emergencies. In a perfect world, in an organized world and following an emergency described by expanded network association and solidarity, new types of participation will be required that saddle the vitality and soul of non-state entertainers.

From multiple points of view, worldwide common society may as of now be giving us what an alternate social model may resemble as people and networks meet up to help the most defenseless in the public arena.

Concerned citizens should join into social developments that will create the push for change, as trade unions, the civil rights movement, and the suffragettes did before. Furthermore, it will be incumbent on actors, for example, think tanks and NGOs who consider themselves to be operators of progress to adjust themselves to developing elements and work with governments and organizations to help shape a progressively feasible and equivalent ‘NORMAL for all.

Coronavirus – a disease, thousands of deaths, growing worries, frightened people

WHO (World Health Organisation)

let’s do it together…

The story that was narrated after Modi’s speech, but it is all!

Delhi Violence: Questions on governance

The communal violence in north east Delhi is getting worse and the police must clamp down on them.

Delhi is witnessing one of the worst clashes in its history.  Just a few miles away from the central vistas, from where the Government of India runs, the North Eastern Delhi is burning in tthe communal clashes that has claimed more than 20 lives till now and has left more than 190 people are seriously injured. A head constable Ratan Lal has also lost his life. The clashes become more violent when the mob of anti-CAA protesters and pro-CAA demonstrators took over the parts of the city wielding canes, swords, revolvers, iron rods, sticks and weapons. Delhi police have proved themselves inefficient in responding to the situation.

It’s also claimed that the Delhi Police has acted in a very partisan way and allowed the situation to become even worse. Many videos are circulating on the Social Media platforms in which it can be seen that the police allowed the mob to act freely, collecting stones. A disturbing video recorded by some police officials beating the mob and forcing gthem to sing ‘National Anthem’ and ‘National Song’.

The eruption of violence in North East Delhi on Monday and Tuesday was not abrupt and unexpected. This has been in the making for weeks.

The arson and violence around the Jamia University on December 16, to which the Delhi police responded indiscriminately by entering the campus and unleashing violence on students inside the campus.

The Delhi police also stood passively when a group of masked goons entered inside the JNU campus and beated the students entering rooms in the hostel on January 5. The masked goons have also been identified through pictures but no one has been arrested yet.

The Delhi police also did nothing when a gunman opened fire at the anti-CAA protesters marching towards Rajghat from Jamia Nagar on January 30, the martyrdom day of Mahatma Gandhi.

This tense situation has turned into conflagration when mobs formed on communal lines took on each other on Sunday. Properties of innocent people have been burnt in the communal clashes and many innocent people lost their loved ones. Both sides complain that calls were made to the police since Sunday but there was no effective intervention. Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla inexplicably characterised the situation as “fully under control”, as chaos and violence spread through Monday.

The inefficiency and inaction of the Delhi police is linked to varying grades of the action of provoking unlawful behaviour and silent consent to communal mobilisation by the BJP that is in power at the Centre. Law and order and policing in Delhi are the responsibility of the Union Home Ministry. Speeches of Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the Delhi Assembly election campaign were clearly meant to encourage communal polarisation. Lower rung leaders like Anurag Thakur, Parvesh Verma, Tajinder pal Bagga and Kapil Mishra acted on promp and turned Delhi into a communal cauldron over recent months. The failing efficiency shown by those who control the Central and State governments in Delhi has been proved as they cannot enforce elementary law and order right under their nose. Communal violence any time, anywhere happens only due to the inefficiency or desire of those in power. The Prime Minister and Delhi Chief Minister must prove their efficiency and administrative skills by clamping down on violence, whatever it takes. It’s a good step taken now to shoot any vigilante seen on the streets causing harm to public property or trying to incite violence. There shouldn’t be politics on this issue and immediate steps should be taken to restore peace and communal harmony in the city.

If the Delhi police can’t handle the situation, then curfew should be imposed in the Capital and Army should be introduced in the city to control Law and Order situation.

Supreme court has delivered a judgement, upholding the 2013 verdict of the Delhi High Court, on Feb 17, 2020, asking the government to grant permanent commission to women in the Short Service Commission. SC asked to pass the notification regarding it in the time period of 3 months.

The women cadets are already being absorbed in the various branches of the armed forces, but they are denied the permanent commission. This was a clear violation of the equality and non-discrimination principle enshrined in the constitution of India. The supreme court has destroyed the stereotypes about the physiological features as represented by the government in its submission in the court which deny equal status to women who complete the same criteria as their male counterparts do.

The Supreme Court observed that, as long as there is thebelief in the society that women are physically and psychologically weaker than their male counterparts, there will not be the change of mindsets. infact , the Supreme Court has turned the many contradictions that were embedded in the government’s arguments that weaken the case of the government. The inherent prejudices in the government’s submission were exposed by the Supreme court.

The government submitted that women officers are not advised to be deployed in the battle zone because they are not that strong and could prove as a liability rather than an asset.

The government submitted that the women officers can’t live in those areas as there are ‘ minimal facilities for habitat and sanitation’.

The government, although, accepted in the court that around 30% of the total women officers are deputed in the conflicted regions of the country. By telling this, the government has weakened its own argument that the women officers are not suitable to be deputed in the harsh terrain and conflicted zone areas.

The supreme court, by ordering the government to provide for the Permanent commission for women in the 10 branches of the SSC, has ensured a level playing field. The Supreme Court has also acknowledged the valiant roles played by women officers in the battle fields and in other conflicted situations, for the security of the nation.

Given the fact, that the Indian Army experiences a shortfall of officers by about 10,000 in the officer ranks, this discrimination happening with the ewomen officers in not allowing them for permanent commission is more annoying. It’s not that there is a surplus of women officers in the Indian Army. There are only 1653 women officers out of a total of 40,825 officers.

The Supreme court has recommended the government to correct the flaws in the matter of pensions due to women.

Though the Prime Minister announced, that permanent commission would be given to the serving women officers in the armed forces, on August 15, 2018 from the ramparts of Red Fort.

It is a telling state of affairs that after its announcement by the Prime Minister, it needed the Supreme Court to push the government into doing it.

The efforts of the litigants who filed the petition in 2003 in the High Court which gave the same judgement of giving permanent commission to women. But the government didn’t implement it and the litigants had to move to the Supreme court for their rights. The supreme court also upheld the high court judgement. The efforts of those litigants are plausible.

Now it’s up to the government, whether it would be able to implement the order given by the supreme court in the given 3 months period or not, given the inherent flaws in the executive structure.

Kejriwal 3.0 : Challenges of the Delhi government

Arvind Kejriwal took oath as the Chief Minister of National Capital Territory of Delhi for the 3rd time in the presence of around Lakhs of his supporters in the Ramlila Maidan, from where, Arvind Kejriwal emerged as a political figure from the Jan Lokpal movement. It’s the third time that Arvind Kejriwal took oath as the Chief Minister of Delhi in less than a period of 6 years.
His party, AAP, won 62 out of 70 seats after a 50 days long bitter campaign. Many allegations were made against the Chief Minister. Several Ministers of the BJP have even called him a terrorist during the election campaign. Some even called it a war between India and Pakistan

After taking oath, Kejriwal gave the signal that he will work diligently with the Union government for the welfare of the city. He said that he has forgiven the member of opposition parties who made harsh comments about him and asked the central government to work in synergy.
He signalled that his new term will be more work oriented and less conflicted.

He did a good job by offering the invitation of his oath taking ceremony to PM Narendra Modi.
This shows his willingness to work in coordination with the central government.

The unique executive feature of Delhi made it a compulsion for the state government to work in coordination with the central government because the state is forced to share its rights with the central government as delhi is the capital city of the country. In most of the matters related to police and urban development, the power resides with the central government.

The conflict between the Delhi government and the Central government has delayed many developmental projects in the capital city earlier before. People of Delhi have given a clear mandate to different parties at different levels- BJP for central government and AAP for administering the state. Now they should work together to make Delhi a world-class city. The centre should work on the broad matters of policing and Public works while the AAP should work for improving the health and education sectors.

The local sources of pollution are unregulated to a large extent. Waste is being dumped continuously without any segregation at 3 major sites, Badarpur, Ghazipur and Mukarba Chowk. They are going to cross the height of Qutub Minar now. These dumping grounds are a major source of toxic gases that cause many respiratory disorders in the locality.
Besides this, the shortage of public busses in the capital is also a cause of concern. There is a need for more public buses in the city to reduce the amount of pollution in the city.
Having made bus rides free for women, the AAP government now has to ensure that there are sufficient numbers of buses on the roads. In his 10 points guarantee card, Arvind Kejriwal has promised for more than 11,000 public buses and to increase the Delhi Metro Network upto 500 KM.

He has promised to carry on the 20,000 litres of free water to each household, but now he has to ensure the quality of supplied water. In the past also, the central and the delhi government has spent crores of rupees for Cleaning of the Yamuna river. But the motive is still not achieved. Delhi can’t be a world class city with a river full of pollutants flowing from its centre. Arvind Kejriwal can’t do this task on his own. Both governments, central and the state, have to work together to rejuvenate the holy river.

There is a shortage of houses in Delhi. Both governments should work together to implement the long overdue Land Pooling Policy that will provide a roof over a millions and will kick-start the housing sector which will further contribute in empowering the economy of Delhi.
Arvind Kejriwal also has to deal with the CM of his neighbouring states, UP and Haryana, to tackle other issues related to the city.

Arvind Kejriwal has shown an incredible ability to transform from a social activist to an able politician and an executive. He must stay the course.

Politics Over Republic Day Tableau

The ministry of defense has declared the list of the states/UTs/ministries/departments whose tableau are going to participate in the grand republic day parade of 2020. A total of 22 proposals are accepted out of 56. Kerala, Maharashtra and West Bengal didn’t find a space in the list.

This has sparked a political controversy. The opposition has started charging the union government of playing vendetta politics in selecting republic day tableaux.

Centre’s Justification

The officials of the union government said that the West Bengal, Maharashtra and Kerala tableaux were rejected after being examined in 2 rounds of meeting.

West Bengal tableau’s proposal was examined by the expert committee. A well-established system is followed for the selection of tableau for the republic day parade.

Ministry of defense invites proposals from all States, UTs, Central Ministries and Departments. These proposals are later evaluated in a series of meetings of the expert committee. The committee comprises of eminent persons from the fields of Art, Culture, Painting, Sculpture, Music, and Choreography. Proposals are examined on the basis of theme, concept, design and its visual impact. Time constraint permits a limited number of tableau being shortlisted for participation in the parade.

Opposition’s Remarks

The opposition has started condemning the move.  Kerala Law Minister AK Balan said that rejection after the third phase cannot happen without political interference.

In Maharashtra, both, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena and Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party have accused the BJP-led Centre of being prejudiced and demanded an explanation.

Supriya Sule said the Republic Day is a “festival of the country” and the center is expected to give “representation to all the states”.

Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy said that it’s discriminatory and is happening because Mamta Banerjee led TMC has been opposing the center’s CAA (Citizenship Amendment Act) and the NRC (National Register of Citizens) plans.

In Kerala, the government and the opposition came together and pass a resolution against the law.

What The Opposition Is Trying To Convey

By passing the resolution against the CAA in the Kerala legislative assembly, and the same indications shown by the various opposition governments in various states, be it West Bengal, Punjab, Maharashtra, the opposition is trying to register its protest.

The resolution passed by the Kerala legislative assembly reflects a legitimate concern that in enacting the CAA, the Centre has employed a discriminatory norm into the law. There is justified opposition across India on the amendment’s implications, especially in combination with the expected follow-up action in the form of NRC. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has spoken out against the CAA’s discriminatory nature. The Centre must make an effort to understand the underpinnings of the ongoing protests against the amendments in the citizenship act.
